Tracklist

Here is few words about each of the tracks in the Caminho das águas mix.

Nick De Caro – Under the Jamaican Moon
We start off with the great Nick De Caro. He started out as an in-house arranger and producer for A&M records back in the late 60’s and had a successful carer throughout the rest of his life (Nick passed away in 1992). He worked on a number of records by artists like Harpers Bizarre, Claudine Longet, Barbra Streisand, the Doobie Brothers and Randy Newman. Nick also released a few solo albums. The first two, “Happy Heart” and “Italian Graffiti”, were released in the US. He later released two albums in Japan where he always have had a big following. The Randy Newman penned track “Under the Jamaican Moon” is the first song from “Italian Graffiti”.

Family Four – En häst utan namn
This splendid version of the classic track by America comes from the Öst family, better known as Family Four. The song is sung in Swedish and translated by the late great Beppe Wolgers. Like many of his song lyrics and poems it deals with the state of the world and environmental issues. The track can be found on the recently reissued LP, “Picknick”.

Joan Baez with Joni Mitchell – Dida
Joan and Joni join forces on this California classic from Baez’s LP, “Diamonds and Rust”.

Faragher Brothers – Baby When You Make It With Me
A blue-eyed soul bomb from the Faragher Brothers. I just love the chorus of this track. The Faraghers started out as members of the sunshine pop band Peppermint Trolley Company but later moved towards smooth AOR territory.

Jim Photoglo – Steal Away
We continue in the same blue-eyed soul vein. Here’s a sweet track by Jim Photoglo.

Island Band – Let’s Escape
The Island Band from Hawaii released a few decent albums. This track comes from their LP called, “I’m Your Captain”, also containing their biggest hit, How Can I Make You See?

Barbara Moore Singers – Steam Heat
A wordless vocal track from the queen of scat and long-time Eden Rock favourite, Barbara Moore. This is a rather haunting song from the excellent LP, “Vocal Shades and Tones”.

Teca e Ricardo – Corpo aberto
A lovely tune by the French bossa duo Teca & Ricardo. “Corpo Aberto” can be found on their LP, “Caminho das águas”.

Orchestra King Zerand – Love on Love
Mega rare Italian library scat business from Orchestra King Zerand. I just love the heavy drums and the overall flow of this track.

Lucio Battisti – Ami ancora elisa
Continuing with a soulful number from the great Lucio Battisti. This one is taken from his LP, “Io Tu Noi Tutti” from 1977.

Sunshine  – Reach Out
Sweet feelgood folk from Sunshine. “Reach Out” is the standout track from the bands self-titled LP. The record seems to have been released as an advertisement record for an orange juice company.

Armando Trovajoli – Racconto televisivo
This cosmic bossa nova track from the legendary Armando Trovajoli comes from the soundtrack to the Italian movie “Brutti, Sporchi e Cattivi”. Also check the amazing title track of the soundtrack.

Östen Fladvad – Jag låg så vaken
There is almost no information whatsoever on Östen Fladvad to be found on the internet. His wonderful and rare LP, “Bortom här och nu” contains several great soul folk tracks, including, “Jag låg så vaken”. The song is a piece of northern folky groove about being half asleep and meeting a bunch of gnoms by the foot of a hill (!).

Nancy Honeytree – Evergreen
The first track of Nancy Honeytree’s third album, “Evergreen”. The “christian Joni Mitchell” recorded a couple of sweet folk records in the early 70’s.

Jesse Colin Young – What’s Going On/Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology)
A great medley of two classics from the ex-Youngblood Jesse Colin Young. The track is taken from the live album, “On the Road”. You can actually find a Jesse Colin Young track in each of the three Eden Rock mixes to date.

Joan Baez – Dida
Back again to Dida. This time from Joan’s latin flavoured LP, “Gracias a la vida”.

Happy hunting!
